Topic: The Dune Universe
Description:
Welcome to the world of Dune at the start of the second movie: A dark universe full of treachery and ruled by fire. As many competing interests endlessly fight for power, a delicate balance is maintained between the Great Houses and the mighty Emperor. At the center of this power struggle lies the desert planet Arrakis. Its hot dunes contain Spice, a precious commodity without which interstellar travel would not be possible. The Fremen, natives of Arrakis, are constantly persecuted by foreign powers seeking control of Spice. After the Emperor annihilates House Atreides for growing too powerful, Paul Atreides (heir to the Atreides throne) and his mother run away to a Fremen tribe. Some Fremen believe Paul may be a Messiah who will lead them to retake their homeland – others dismiss the outsider as part of a false prophecy designed by an order of witches called the Bene Gesserit. As the Emperor and his allies strengthen their grip on Arrakis, Paul inspires the Fremen to resist. Who will win the battle for Arrakis? Who will be betrayed? In this joint crisis committee, YOU will get a chance to answer these questions, either as an ally of the Fremen or an ally of those who seek to destroy them.

Hey everyone, my name is Ethan Benenson. I'm from NJ and a junior at Exeter. I've been doing Model UN since freshman year, but I also do mock trial, Student Council, and run cross country and track. My favorite Dune scene is definitely from Part One during the surprise attack against the House of Atreides, when Gurney leads a charge against the entire Harkonnen and Sardaukar armies. Inspiring stuff. We've put a lot of work into this, so I'm super excited to be chairing the Fremen side of our joint crisis committee. See you soon!

Hi, my name is Lake Zhou (he/him) and I’m a current lower (10 grader) at PEA. I am originally from Long Island, New York but now live in Massachusetts. I started MUN during 9th grade and I have loved it ever since. Outside of MUN I am also a part of the clubs like Debate, Investment, Business, and more. Relating to my committee, one of my favorite Dune scenes is when Paul first rides the sandworm. I feel this was a pivotal moment in the film as one of Paul’s final “trials” and also a heart racing scene to watch. I am excited for this committee and can’t wait to see you all at PEAMUN!

Hi! My name is Jillian, and I’m on the staff of Crisis committee 2, which is based on Dune. I use she/her pronouns. I’m from the Bay Area, and I’m currently a sophomore. I started attending MUN club meetings last year and participated in my first conference at Andover. Outside of MUN, I love art, theater, and music. At Exeter, I participate in the Exonian, along with other writing and art clubs. Personally, my favorite Dune scene is when Paul first rides the sandworm.
