Topic: Lunar Standoff
Description:
A technologically superior alien civilization appears unexpectedly in the Moon’s orbit. The nations of Earth harbor mixed emotions towards this new quandary, with some advocating for developing an armed response and some opting for diplomacy. However, they all share one sentiment: they want the aliens to stop encroaching on humanity’s sovereignty and leave The Moon. Unfortunately, upon establishing communications with the aliens, mankind realizes that their extraterrestrial visitors have no intention of leaving. As tensions rise, the committee must decide on a course of action to protect humanity’s interests. The LEARN (Lunar Extraterrestrial Assessment and Response Network) has been formed and called to action by the United Nations to respond to the threat. The committee is comprised of a myriad of nations, with a mix of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world countries, each of whom would benefit from the different possible outcomes of the situation (some reaping benefits from war, some from diplomacy, some from letting the aliens stay). In the end, delegates must harness their creativity, ingenuity, tact, and adaptability to reach a positive outcome for the sake of humanity.

Committee Dais
Greetings delegates! My name is Joseph Vicente. I am a junior and will be chairing the Lunar Standoff Crisis Committee. I’m very excited to see you all and can’t wait to see you demonstrate your skills! I’ve been a member of the Model UN club since my freshman year, and participating in it has broadened my perception of the world and the important events that take place in it on a day-to-day basis. I also find it very enjoyable to deliver fun speeches and work collaboratively with like-minded people to solve both fictional and real issues. On campus, I play football and co-head the Catholic and Filipino clubs. I’m also an avid military history enthusiast, a huge Star Wars fan, and I prefer NASCAR over F1. I hope you all enjoy PEAMUN as much as I did when it was my first conference as a delegate

Hi my name is Melia Thibault, I use she/her pronouns, and I am in 10th grade. I am from New York City, and I have been in Model UN for a year. I started MUN when I came to Exeter, and have gone to a couple of conferences, including PEAMUN! A couple of things I like to do is play volleyball and softball, and I also love debate. My favorite animal is a dog, and I have one at home named Sydney. Finally, when I’m not in school or extracurriculars, I love to read, watch TV, and sleep. My favorite kind of TV shows are sitcoms, and I love Friends. I hope this helps you get to know me!

Welcome delegates! My name is Artur Novaes Ferreira, and I am currently a sophomore from northern New Jersey at Phillips Exeter. This is my second year participating in Model UN and I will be a Staffer on the Lunar Crisis Committee. I have debated in several conferences as a delegate in the past year and this will be my first time helping run a committee. In addition to MUN, I participate in the debate club and the orchestra at Exeter. Moreover, I am on the Cross-Country, Ice Hockey, and Cycling teams while also doing triathlons outside of school. All of these extracurricular activities have strengthened my MUN skills, and ultimately proven helpful in my argumentation against and cooperation with other delegates. I am looking forward to meeting many of you at PEAMUN in the fall!
