Topic: Amazon Emergency
Description: The Amazon Emergency Crisis Committee will focus on a forest fire which is devastating the Amazon Rainforest. The current forest fire is part of a decades-long trend of a decline of the Rainforest which saw a sharp increase in recent years. This sharp increase is attributed to the efforts of ex-Presitend Bolsonaro who encouraged farmers to burn the rainforest for agriculture. Soy and beef exports make up ~15% and ~3% of the country's GDP respectively. President Lula, who previously served two terms as president starting in 2003, was re-elected again in 2023 and ran on cracking down on deforestation. Given the nature of the Amazon, many groups have an interest in its future including indigenous, economic and environmental groups.

Hi! My name is Jacob Fernandez (he/him/his), I am a three year Senior at Phillips Exeter Academy who has been doing Model United Nations since 8th grade. I originally hail from Singapore, a small country in South East Asia, where I had the pleasure of serving as a Model UN chair twice before and a delegate countless times. When I'm not doing Model UN I am running the Exeter Pinoy Society, a club which celebrates filipino culture, or serving as a Policy committee head for the Student government at the Academy. Hello! My name is Akshara (she/her), and I am a current sophomore from Palo Alto, California, but I was born here in New Hampshire. I have attended a few conferences as a delegate myself, including PEAMUN, but this is my first time in a crisis. Before joining Model UN, I was a debater, but I've learned to love this. For a little bit about myself, I love music, I am a rower, I like lifting on my own, and I also just like relaxing. I have a labradoodle named Ranger who I miss a lot when I'm on campus, but I've always wanted to get a cat. My favorite color is green and I love mangoes. Besides that, I'm so excited to meet everyone!

My name is Rohit Kantamneni and I am a sophomore at Phillips Exeter Academy. I am from Houston, Texas. I have been doing Model UN for two years. I have attended several conferences and I enjoy meeting (or arguing with) new delegates each time I attend. On campus, I am on the Crew team, I compete in Mock Trial, and I am in the school's Biology Club. I enjoy growing plants and playing other sports like soccer. I’m a big fan of Tottenham Hotspurs! This year’s PEAMUN will be so exciting and I can’t wait to meet you all!
