SECTION ONE: REGISTRATION

Question 0
We are open to individual registrations, but we require that individual delegates not affiliated with a school fill out a short application before we approve their spot at PEAMUN XII. We do this mostly to protect our own delegates, at the end of the day. If you are a student looking to apply to PEAMUN, email smcnulty@exeter.edu from your school email if you have one, and we will discuss next steps together.

Please note that we would prefer wherever possible that an adult affiliated with your school fill in application and payment materials. The provision for individual registrations is primarily designed to provide an opportunity to participate for those students who have no active Model UN team at their school.
What will the registration process look like?
Ah, registration! Here's how that will work. Firstly, we should note that every step of this process should be completed by an adult affiliated with your school, be this an adviser, sponsor, teacher or administrator. The process, more or less, will consist of the following steps:

  1. You, dearest adult affiliated with your school, fill out the preliminary registration form (see our "Register" page), indicating the number of delegates you plan to bring.
  2. As soon as we receive this form, a member of the Secretariat will personally reach out to you to field any questions, provide more information, and provide payment details. We do this mostly to confirm your identity on our end, and to give you the opportunity to interact with us.
  3. Once we are able, we will send the payment form to those delegations who have registered. This payment form, through our school's formal marketplace, will accept credit and debit cards. Checks can also be mailed to the school, should you prefer. We will cap registrations at 300, in order to ensure the best conference possible. At first, we will send the payment form to those who originally signed-up, in the order they filled out the preliminary form. We will then send out payment forms later to those on a potential waitlist. In any case, we will update you about your delegation's status as promptly as we can.
I have paid, but not all my kids are able to attend. May I get a refund?
Because of the limited registration space and comparatively low registration fee, we are unable to offer refunds at this time. We strongly encourage schools to bring all the students they register for. Those delegations unable to afford registration fees should request a fee waiver on our preliminary registration form.

We would urge all schools to practice non sibi ("not for oneself", Exeter's school motto) behavior. Register for the seats that you will fill, and if you can, pay the registration fee for your seats. And of course be in contact with us if there is any way we can help you along.

SECTION TWO: Conference DETAILS

Over what platform will the conference be held?
PEAMUN XII will use a hybrid model for our committees involving both Zoom (which everyone under the sun knows about), and Discord, a free, user-friendly chat server platform that some of your students are probably already familiar with. Most in-committee action will happen on a Zoom call between the delegates and the chair. This includes speeches and moderated caucuses and all visibly "front-room" action. Discord will also have its uses. It will be a place to store information, pass notes to fellow delegates, receive committee updates, and will be a major player in our unique crisis committees.

We understand that this is all so new to all of us, and advisers are looking for online conferences that will provide fun, engaging experiences for their delegates. Having piloted our model in the spring with our own club members, the Secretariat believes that PEAMUN XII will do just that in a user-friendly setting.

If you're confused about the technology side of things, don't let that be the piece that dissuades you from registering. We will offer a technology tutorial before the conference, and a member of the Secretariat will be glad to take time to discuss conference details with you.

When will background guides and committee assignments be released?
More detailed summaries of each committee, including background guides (!) will be released in early October. They are all written and edited by our really passionate students (many of whom are very busy!), and they are dedicated to getting out committee information with enough time for prep. Around that time, we hope to be able to offer committee assignments to registered delegations. A lot of this depends on how registrations shake up. In any case, we will offer committee assignments as soon as we can.
Am I required to write position papers?
No, you're aren't! Having said that, if you want to write one, our chairs (who have MUN experience themselves, will quite happily read it and provide you with feedback. And this speaks to one of my favorite things about PEAMUN, more generally. Our conference is specifically designed to be approachable and welcoming for novice delegates. While experienced delegations will certainly find challenge and thrill too, our chairs and Secretariat love helping out new delegates, and will be glad to assist you.
What are the chaperoning requirements like for advisers?
A lot of the details to this question will depend on the number of schools who register. Our goal, however, is to have one adult present in each committee room during the conference. We will provide information about chaperoning requirements, but for now advisers should know that they may be expected to "sit in" on committees for certain time slots. We will try, where possible, to minimize this, and to provide advisers with the greatest degree of flexibility possible. We do ask that all advisers at least have read our Code of Conduct, which can be found on our Registrations page.
As always, be sure to contact us if you have more questions!
